Pacific Islands Recreational Fisheries Coordinator

In order to support the need for greater coordination in recreational fisheries, NOAA Fisheries Service assigned a Recreational Fisheries Coordinator in the Pacific Islands Regional Office to act as a point of contact for recreational fishers in the Western Pacific.

The coordinator’s role is to establish a relationship with the recreational fishing community and foster collaboration with NOAA Fisheries Service and among our regional partners. This involves supporting fishing clubs, tournaments and events, educating the general public about the value of recreational fishing to our Region, and passing along priorities and concerns to NOAA Fisheries headquarters in Washington, DC. The coordinator also leads the Hawaii Recreational Fishing Action Team, a group of more than two dozen representatives from across the state whose organizations are actively involved in activities that benefit recreational fisheries in Hawaii.

Nicole Bartlett, Recreational Fisheries CoordinatorNicole Bartlett has been working in recreational fisheries for over six years. An avid fisher, Nicole first worked as a contractor for several NOAA Fisheries recreational surveys, then on the Recreational Statistics team at NOAA Fisheries headquarters. There, she helped design and monitor surveys used to collect information on recreational landings and was the point of contact for recreational constituents nationwide. In 2004, Nicole spent four months in Hawaii analyzing data from the Hawaii Marine Recreational Fishing Survey (HMRFS). She returned to Hawaii for good in 2005 as NOAA Fisheries’ Pacific Islands Recreational Fisheries Coordinator.  Contact Nicole at 808-944-2151 or by email.
