The Hawaii Recreational Fisheries Action Team is a group of more than two dozen representatives from across the state whose organizations are actively involved in activities that benefit recreational fisheries in Hawaii. NOAA Fisheries released the national Recreational Fisheries Strategic Plan (pdf 3.1MB) in February 2005, with the eye towards the development of regional teams to address implementation of the plan.
Given Hawaii’s uniqueness, there is probably nowhere else local implementation is more important. The overall goal is to build a long-term collaborative relationship among Hawaii’s recreational fisheries interests and tailor the strategic plan to Hawaii. This will allow not only for more efficient use of our resources, but it will also ensure the Team’s identified priorities and accompanying funding requests are incorporated into NOAA’s budget and planning efforts.
