The Hawaiian monk seal is a special treasure in the Hawaiian islands. Not only are these animals endemic or native to the islands, but they are one of the most endangered animal species in the world.

Hawaiian monk seals are one of the most endangered animal species in the world. Only about 1,100 seals are left and their overall population is in decline.

Please join us at one of the Monk Seals in Your Neighborhood events. Enjoy engaging activities, get up close and personal with life-sized monk seal models and meet NOAA Fisheries scientists and staff who can answer all of your questions and explain the science behind the management efforts to recover the Hawaiian monk seal.
